Australians are generally direct, informal, and egalitarian. First names are commonly used in most settings, including workplaces. Humour, including self-deprecation, is a big part of social interaction. "How ya going?" is a greeting, not a literal question about your travels.

Tipping and service culture
Tipping is not expected in Australia — service workers are paid a living wage. However, rounding up or leaving small tips for exceptional service at restaurants is becoming more common. There is no obligation to tip taxi drivers, hotel staff, or delivery people.
Social norms
Queuing (lining up) is taken seriously. Punctuality is expected for appointments and work, but social events are more relaxed. "BYO" means Bring Your Own (usually drinks to a restaurant or party). Barbecues ("barbies") are a common way Australians socialise.
